Understanding Something Medical?
Health care is so confusing. But there is help
What is the doctor trying to tell us? What does this mean? How do we find our way around such a complicated healthcare system? Where do we go? Who do we ask? How? Why?
Let me help you make sense of all this, and find your way to the answers you and your family are looking for
Where did this crazy idea come from?
How I Can Help
As an Emergency Room Nurse for almost 40 years, guess who's invited to go along to everyone's doctor's appointments to translate what the healthcare personnel are saying into regular people talk? Who gets copies of medical paperwork to decipher, figure out what exactly is this prescription for, what does the doctor mean by this?
Definitely people should ask their doctor or nurse, but sometimes they just aren't comfortable doing that. Or they try but still don't understand. Or they're embarassed to ask more questions.
I recently went through this with an illness in my family, and I was reminded first hand how we in the medical profession are basically speaking an entirely different language than non-healthcare people. This creates confusion, embarassment, frustration, distrust, anxiety and even errors in treatment which can lead to harm.
Let me help you keep yourself and your loved ones safe, and make sure you understand everything you've been told or given.
Please be aware that I can not give you medical advice , a second opinion, nor confirm or deny a diagnosis. Only your physician or nurse practitioner can do this
